A Prinergy system is a server-client system for prepress workflow management.
From one or more servers, you manage files or collections of files in jobs, and store job data and processing reports in a secure database.
From the client computers, you manage the taking in of the plate-ready PDFs and the output of the 1-bit TIFFs for platemaking.
Prinergy servers
The primary server is the main server in a Prinergy system. It contains all Prinergy primary server software components, including the Oracle database. The Prinergy primary server coordinates requests from the Prinergy Workshop software and maintains the database. In a distributed system, the primary server coordinates client computer requests and maintains the database. Some tasks can be carried out on secondary servers to increase overall system performance. There is only one primary server in a Prinergy system.
The secondary server is any Prinergy server in a Prinergy system that is not the primary server—that is, it is running the Prinergy server software but does not store the Oracle database. Secondary servers can run some JTPs to facilitate distributed processing. A Prinergy system can include multiple secondary servers.
A tertiary server is a server that is connected to the Prinergy system via the network, but is not running any Prinergy software components. It is used to store job folders and/or input files for Prinergy jobs.
Prinergy clients
Prinergy client computers are Windows or Macintosh computers that are connected to the Prinergy system. The main Prinergy client software is Prinergy Workshop.
Proofing and output devices
Kodak maintains lists of qualified image setters, proofers, and film and plate makers. To find out which connecting software and proofers are qualified with Prinergy, see Partner Place or call your service representative.
Administrative software
Prinergy Administrator
Prinergy Administrator (UADM.exe) is the Prinergy administration user interface. You can use it to configure job ticket processors (JTPs), add and remove servers, start and stop the Prinergy primary server, and monitor the system. It is installed as part of the Prinergy primary server software on primary and secondary servers.
Output Device Control software
Device control software is connecting software for image setters, proofers, and film and plate makers attached to the Prinergy system. For example, Print Console is the connecting software for Kodak Flexcel NX Imagers.
Oracle Backup Manager
Oracle Backup Manager software is included with each Prinergy system. It is configured to automatically create a backup of the Oracle database on a designated local disk. Once the backup database is created, you must use additional software to save this information to other storage media.
Backup software
Your backup system must include software to back up to storage media the data that is on your system drives on the primary and secondary servers, and the backup of the Oracle database.
If you have purchased the Prinergy Online Backup option, your system includes Prinergy Backup software, which is configured to automatically back up your system to media. If you have not purchased this option, you must provide your own backup software. You are responsible for configuring this software.
Note: Backup differs from archiving in that in archiving, only the files related to a specific job are saved; the system itself is not backed up.
Prinergy Workshop software
The main Prinergy client software is Prinergy Workshop. Prinergy Workshop enables you to create jobs, fine-tune images and fonts, assign pages to page sets and imposition plans, proof output, monitor job activity and status, and so on.
Other client software includes Adobe Acrobat, Kodak Prinergy Virtual Proofing System, Kodak Preps, Kodak Pandora, and so on.
InSite software
Kodak InSite is a web portal that lets you (the printer) and your customers (print buyers) work with print jobs over the Internet.
