Background

You can import a Harmony transfer curve into ColorFlow and use it as a ColorFlow Source transfer curve to achieve the same tonal correction as the original Harmony curve.

Tasks

Goal
Import a Harmony transfer curve and use as a ColorFlow source curve to output a page in Prinergy. 

Task 1: Import a Harmony print curve

  1. In ColorFlow, click the Print Curves tab.
  2. In the Harmony Curves section, click Import.
  3. Check Show Paper and Film Calibration Curves to make the target curves visible.
  4. Select file CF-AG04_Harmony_Print_Curves.hmy.
  5. Select all four curves in the Import dialog box and click OK.
  6. Select the Show in Prinergy Print Curves check boxes for the four imported PRINT curves.
  7. To view Harmony curve values of the curves in the Harmony Curves list, do one of the following:
    • Double-click the PRINT Press A CS1 SWOP 175L curve
    • Click the PRINT Press A CS1 SWOP 175L curveand then click the Curve icon  in the curve object on the right window
  8. Remember the 50% black ink value (52.6%)

Task 2: View the print curves in Prinergy

  1. In Prinergy, click Tools > Process Template Editor > Loose Page Output > Virtual Proof
  2. Click Virtual Proof.LoosePage.
  3. In the Loose Page Output dialog box, expand Calibration & Screening.
  4. Select the ColorFlow Current State radio button.
  5. Tip down the Print Curves list. You should see all the built-in transfer curves and the four curves that you selected as Show in Prinergy Print Curves.

Task 3: Output a PDF using the print curve in Prinergy

  1. In Prinergy, create a new job, and name it as XX Harmony Activity 3 Transfer Curve (where XX = your initials).
  2. Refine Chart_TintRamp_CMYK.pdf with 1stRef-Normz.
  3. Output the PDF file using Virtual Proof.LoosePage with a transfer curve you just imported:
    1. In your Virtual Proof.LoosePage Process template dialog box, from the Output To list, select Virtual Proof.
    2. Leave ColorFlow Color Relationship Management unchecked.
    3. Expand the Calibration & Screening panel.
    4. Click the ColorFlow Current State radio button.
    5. Make sure that no Plate Curve is selected
    6. Expand the Print Curve drop-down list and select curve PRINT Press A CS1 SWOP 175L.
  4. Open the generated page in VPS and measure the 50% black patch. 
    Confirm that the transfer curve has been applied and the 50% black patch measures 52.6%. 

Outcome

You have imported a Harmony transfer curve and used it as a ColorFlow source curve in Prinergy to control output tonal response.
