Context

You can create a plate calibration curve to linearize the plates and control the quality of the process.

Tasks

Objective:
Create a calibration curve of the plates and enter 53 for the area of the measured points that represents a gain of 3%.

Task 1: Create a new plate calibration curve in ColorFlow

  1. In ColorFlow, click the Plate Curves tab.
  2. In the Plate Calibration Curves section, click the Add button.
  3. In the New Plate Curve dialog box, type the following:
    1. In the Device Type box, select Offset Press - Sheetfed.
    2. In the License plate type box, select or add the value to the list if it doesn't exist:Kodak Thermal Gold
      1. Click the Edit button.
      2. Click the Add button
      3. .So Kodak Thermal Gold.
    3. In the Filtering box, select or add the value to the list if it doesn't exist.150 lpi AM
    4. In the Plate Line box, select or add the value to the list if it doesn't exist.Trendsetter
  4. Click OK.
  5. In the data panel on the right, name the license plate curve by entering (where xx=your initials) in the Name box License plate curve.XX new plate curve
  6. In the Measured Plate Response section, enter the measured values of the dot area for each Tint In value.
In a real-world situation, you would remove an uncalibrated plate from Prinergy and measure it using a measuring device. For this training, enter the following value:

    5053
  7. Click Apply.
A plate curve with linear response is generated.
  8. You can see the curve of the plate by clicking on the Plate Curve...
  9. Check the Show Curve in Prinergy box next to the plate curve name in the Plate Curves section in the upper left.

Task 2: Observe the curves of the Prinergy plates

  1. In Prinergy, click Tools > Process Template Editor > Loose Page Output > Virtual Proof.
  2. Clicca su Virtual Proof.LoosePage.
  3. In the Free Page Output dialog box, move the Calibration and Screening panel.
  4. Click the ColorFlow Current Status button.
  5. Expand the plate curve drop-down menu, you should see the plate curve you just created.

Task 3: Produce a page using the plate curve in Prinergy

  1. In Prinergy, create a new location and name it (where XX = your initials).XX Plate Curve
  2. Chart_TintRamp_CMYK.pdf con 1stRef-Normz.
  3. Express the PDF file using Virtual Proof.LoosePage with one of the plate curves you just created:
    1. In the Virtual Proof.LoosePage process template dialog box, from the Output To list, select Virtual Proof.
    2. Leave ColorFlow Color Relationship Management unenabled.
    3. Expand the calibration and filtering panel.
    4. Click the ColorFlow Current Status button.
    5. Move the plate curve drop-down list and select XX curve new plate curve.
  4. Open the generated page in VPS and measure the black area by 50%.
Confirm that the plate curve has been applied and that the 50% black stain measures 47%.

Outcome

You created a new plate calibration curve and used it in Prinergy to control a plate's tonal response.
