You want to output an 8-page booklet as a signature booklet. You need to create the proof using an imposition output process template.
Create a job
- If it is not already open, start Prinergy Workshop.
- In Job Finder, right-click your main group, and choose New Job.
- Type the job name
XX_Signature_Books
(where <XX> represents your initials). - Click Create.
- Minimize the Job Manager window.
Copy an input file and imposition plan to the job folder
- From your workstation, locate:
Prinergy Activity Practice Files / Act_19_Signature Book
- Copy the
Input File
and Imposition
folders. - Restore Job Manager.
- Right-click the XX_Signature_Books job folder icon in the lower left corner of Job Manager. Select Open Job Folder in File Browser.
- In the
XX_Signature_Books
folder, open UserDefinedFolders
. - Paste the
Input File
and Imposition
folders into UserDefinedFolders
. - Close the job folder.
Create a signature booklet process template
- From the Tools menu, choose Process Template Editor.
- Right-click the Imposition Output group, and select New Process Template Group.
- Enter a name for your group. Type
XXSignatureBooklets
(where <XX> represents your initials). - Right-click the new group and select New Process Template.
- From the File menu, select Save.
- In the Save Process Template dialog box, enter a name for your new process template. Type
XX2UpSignatureBooklets
(where <XX> represents your initials). - Click the Create Process Template button.
- In the Output To window, select PDF (Vector output).
- Open the Layout section. Locate the Signature Booklet area.
- Place a check mark beside Enable Signature Booklet and make the following selections:
- Type = 2 up
- Document Binding = Left
- Open the File Format section. Locate the Document Format option and select Multi Page.
- Open the Device section.
- Locate the Device Path window and verify the device path:
%JOB%/Proofs
.
The Signature Booklet PDF will be located in this folder.
Note: If you would prefer to create a customized folder to store signature booklets, create and name a new folder in your Job folder, and then point the device path to the customized folder instead of the default Proofs folder. - From the File menu, select Save.
- Close the imposition output process template.
- Close Process Template Editor.
Add and refine the input file
- Right-click the Input Files pane and choose Add Input Files.
- In the Add Input Files dialog box, click the Job Folder button and locate:
UserDefinedFolders/Input Files/ Type Brochure.pdf
. - Click the Add Selected button to add the file to the Files to Add list.
- In the Options section of the Add Input Files dialog box, select the Process Selected Files Using Process Template check box. and use the process template: Refine > Refine > 1stRef-Normz.
- In the Add Input Files dialog box, click OK.
- In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.
Impose PDF pages
- Select the Signatures view.
- From the File menu, choose Import Imposition.
- In the Import Imposition dialog box, click the Job Folder button and locate:
UserDefinedFolders / Imposition / Type Brochure.jdf
. - Click Import.
- In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.
- In the Pages pane, right-click
Type Brochure.p1.pdf
and choose Select All Pages. - Right-click any selected PDF page and select Assign Page to Position. Verify that the PDF page numbers are associated with the correct page set positions.
- Click OK.
Proof the imposition using the signature booklet process template
- Right-click the TypeBrochure imposition plan and choose the process template: Imposition Output > XXSignatureBooklets > XX2UpSignatureBooklets.
- In the Start Process dialog box, click OK.
Locate and proof the signature booklet
- Right-click the job icon named XX_Signature_Books in the bottom left corner of Job Manager and choose Open Job Folder in File Browser.
- Open the
Proofs
folder to locate the PDF booklet file. - Open
XXJo.TypeBrochur.1A.PDF
to check page numbers and back-up sequences.
Delete the signature booklet process template and group
- Restore Job Manager.
- From the Tools menu, choose Process Template Editor.
- In the Imposition Output group, open the process template group XXSignature Booklets.
- Right-click your process template XX2UpSignatureBooklets and select Delete. The process template is deleted.
- Right-click your refine group XXSignatureBooklets and select Delete. The process template group is deleted.
- Close the Process Template Editor.
- Close XX_Signature_Books Job Manager.
